This is the permission slip that I drew up for the kids to get signed at the beginning of the year. I made sure that I would get permission, not only to work with them, but to post pictures as well.
These are two of the third graders journaling at the beginning of group as they usually do just to start the time off.
These are the self portraits that I had the kids draw the second day we were together. I wanted them to see how they viewed themselves through their use of color and the shapes they drew.
This is the email that Mrs. Boutilier received from my mentor a little while back. It was one of the most touching things that I have ever read. It helped me see that what I was doing for the kids was a good thing and that I was handling certain situations well.
This is the day that Mrs. Boutilier came in so observe me with my kids. We journaled, did a worksheet, and then played a closing game that they enjoy playing. This is my third grade group and I really love getting to work with them.
This is the house project that I just recently did with all of my kids. I had each of them draw their dream house and then present it to the rest of the group. They were not sure why I did it until the end when I told them, and it was because I wanted to show them that they are all special and unique, and how it is one of the most amazing things about them.
This is the game that I often played with the students. It has them finish the statements with positive phrases or words about themselves, which is what I wanted to focus on most. This is only one angle, but the game has 6 sides and each face is different.
These are two of my third graders standing with the poster we had just made that discussed our classroom expectations that they all signed.
These are two of the fourth graders standing with the expectation posters we had just created for the year about what I expected and what behavior should look like.
This is one of the parent letters that I wrote. I was letting them know what we have been doing and how it has been going with the groups. I gave them my contact information again in case they ever wanted to reach me for anything.
These are two of the students that I work closely with. I have had the wonderful opportunity to watch them grow and progress this year, as well as what it will look like for them when they go off to fifth grade next year. I enjoy listening to them read and hearing all of the new things that they have learned about each time I see them.
This is part of the wall that my kids have helped me build this year. This is full of our promises to be kind to one another and our self esteem building flowers that each of the students made.
These are two of the girls that I work very closely with. They took an immediate liking to me and I have built a great amount of trust with them. This day it was just me and them in the group so we decided to take a selfie.
This day we needed to be flexible and move rooms due to testing being done in our regular room. Here, we played a game and I had the opportunity to pull each student aside and ask them how I could best help them. We ended with a closing game and Joe was given Olaf for the day because of how well he was doing in class.
This is the student's holding the sign that talks about what is great about each of them. This is the group of third grade students that I have been working with and they are each doing such a wonderful job. This sign came out much better than I had originally thought and it really tells something about each student.
These are two of my fourth graders holding the poster. I don't have photo release permission from the last student so unfortunately I can not include him on here. These three made some of the most powerful statements on the poster and they speak volumes about how far they have come this year and how hard they have been working to build up their self esteem.
This is one of the worksheets the kids did listing 5 things that they like about themselves. I loved all of the answers they gave me.
This is is the first worksheet we did listing out reasons why the kids are special and unique. They had an excellent time working on it.
This worksheet allowed the kids to talk about themselves and what they're good at.
These are the people I had the kids draw in, the words on the inside are positive traits, and the ones on the outside are what they would want to change. There is far more written on the inside, which is good.
This is the worksheet the kids did the day Mrs. Boutilier came in to observe. They listed out all of the reasons that they are superstars, and I could not be more excited over their answers.
